A programme to integrate environment education in the School Curriculum
REACTION is a program to integrate environment education, particularly renewable energy utilization, into a variety of subjects (intracurricular), student research projects (extracurricular), and end year students’ projects (co-curricular). In the intracurricular programme, students find the facts of the environment problems such as pollution, clean water and unpredictable weather. They learn and explore the concept and how to find and develop the solution of the problems including renewable energy utilization and waste recycling. The students who take this environment education are all students in grade 10.
In extra curricular, not all students, but just some students who have interest to take research and develop renewable energy utilization and environment awareness. Students participated in symposium and competition to show their projects and best practices in environmental issue research projects.
The last program is co curricular. In this programme, some teachers from some subjects give a guiding research collaboratively to group students. All students in grade 12 have to take a research project before the final exam. We have 7 priority research themes that can be taken by the students, one of them is renewable energy and environment awareness.
This programme has been result some various of research product such as solar charging, micro hydro energy, bio energy from limous mango waste, eco enzyme, biogas from organic waste, biofuel and some research about how to save electricity, reduce plastic consumption and recycle plastic into roof materials, and develop biodegradable plastics.
This programme also advances students' awareness of the green environment and motivate them to take a little action to build a green environment.
The REACTION program's objectives are to:
increase students' environmental awareness, including their understanding of climate change and global warming
deepen students' understanding of the important of green environment, waste reduction, and waste recycling
improve students’ action to save energy and reduce consumption
increase students’ understanding of the important of renewable energy
increase the number of students’ project at utilization of renewable energy
Integrated enviroment education in some subjects
Environment research particularly renewable energy in extra curricular
Environment research particularly renewable energy in Co Curricular (Final Exam Project)
